Description
This unique book presents all three genera with more than 62 species of snakehead fishes in over 800 photos, illustrations and maps. On 552 pages we provide information on keeping and breeding these fish in the aquarium, but also present their anatomy, history and their importance as invasive species, as food fish and the threat to natural populations.
This book will be an invaluable guide for aquarists and ichthyologists on the two families of snakehead fishes. The book is written in German language.
The book was written by Dominik Niemeier. Domi, as he is known in professional circles, has been active in the aquarium hobby since 1992 and has specialized in snakehead fishes since 1999. He regularly publishes in specialist journals and gives lectures, including at the international snakehead fish meeting (Channa meeting) organized by him. He is known worldwide as an expert on snakehead fishes and also contributes to scientific papers on the subject himself. In addition to his involvement in various social media groups and forums, he runs the largest German-language website on the subject. He has since kept and successfully propagated most of the known snakehead fishes in the aquarium, including some first-time offspring. He is currently dedicated to the reproduction of Channa barca in the aquarium and is close to achieving his goal with the world’s first documented egg laying. Since his childhood, he has been actively and passively involved in animal, nature and species protection and works as an animal (protection) representative for the pet trade. The intention for his book on snakehead fishes is based on the desire that knowledge about these unique creatures will lead to better protection of these fish families in their habitats and at the same time to optimal care in the aquarium hobby.

Hallo Andreas,
